Frequently asked questions

How much income does the sponsor need for Reagrupación Familiar?+

Typically 150% of IPREM (€900/month in 2026) for the first family member plus 50% IPREM (€300/month) per additional family member. Some provinces apply higher thresholds. Income must be stable — usually demonstrated via 3-6 months payslips or autónomo tax filings.

What is the informe de habitabilidad?+

A housing adequacy report issued by your ayuntamiento confirming your property has sufficient space, sanitation, and conditions for the additional family members. Application is via servicios sociales or the housing department. Processing 30-60 days. Sometimes a home inspection is required.

Can my parents qualify for Reagrupación if they're under 65?+

Generally no. Dependent ascendants must be 65+ unless there are exceptional humanitarian grounds (serious illness, lack of family support in country of origin). For under-65 parents, Arraigo Familiar Extendido or a family visit visa route may apply.

What's the difference between Reagrupación and Familiar UE?+

Reagrupación is for family of a non-EU resident in Spain. Familiar UE (Tarjeta de Familiar de Ciudadano UE, RD 240/2007) is for family of an EU/EEA/Swiss citizen. Familiar UE is faster, cheaper, and easier — different legal regime entirely.
